Tonal Profile

A back-electret cardioid whose preamp lives inside the rim clamp, with a 72 mm gooseneck between clamp and capsule. beyerdynamic publishes two frequency responses for it - 20 Hz to 20 kHz close-miked and 35 Hz to 20 kHz at one metre - which is an honest way of saying that most of its low end is proximity effect.

Gain Staging Advice

5 mV/Pa is -46 dBV/Pa, about 10 dB hotter than an SM57 - a tom microphone that needs 30 dB of gain, not 50. Maximum SPL is 140 dB at 24 or 48 V phantom, so a rimshot will not overload it, but 12 V phantom is inside the stated range and buys less headroom than 48; the sheet recommends 48.

Was im Datenblatt tatsächlich steht

Wörtlich von der Herstellerseite zitiert, mit dem Datum der Prüfung. Wir behaupten das Gedruckte, nicht die Absicht dahinter.

Messbedingungen
«Equivalent SPL 35 dB [CCIR; Q-Peak] 24 dB [A; RMS]»

beyerdynamic publishes self-noise twice, under two weightings and two detector types, and names both - CCIR with a quasi-peak detector, and A-weighting with RMS. The eleven-decibel gap between them is not a discrepancy: it is what those two measurement methods do to the same noise. It is worth recording because most manufacturers print one figure without naming either the weighting or the detector, and the A-weighted RMS number is the only one comparable with the rest of the industry.
