Amplification Warning

The small one: a 130 mm driver, 84 dB at 2.83 V - 4 dB below its 165 mm siblings - and the shallowest dip of the range at 4.0 ohms. Four decibels is a factor of 2.5 in amplifier power for the same loudness, and this is the model where B&W's own recommended maximum drops to 100 W.

These two bandwidth rows are printed identically on 705 S3, 706 S3 and 707 S3 (checked 2026-08-06), although the 707 S3 uses a 130 mm bass/midrange driver in a smaller cabinet and the other two use a 165 mm driver. In the same tables the sensitivity row does distinguish them - 88 dB for the 165 mm pair, 84 dB for the 707 S3 - and the impedance minimum distinguishes them too (3.7 vs 4.0 ohms). So the bandwidth figures are the range's, while the level figures are the model's, and only the second kind can be used to tell these speakers apart. Separately, 705 S3 and 706 S3 share every published electro-acoustic number, including both bandwidth rows, the distortion limits, 8Ω (minimum 3.7Ω), 30W-120W and 88dB.
