Tonal Profile

The 1960 tube reissue, built around the EF86 and the original K67 capsule. Three patterns with three separate sensitivity and noise figures - Neumann does name which is which here, unlike on its own multi-pattern transistor models.

Gain Staging Advice

Cardioid is the loud pattern: 24 mV/Pa against 15 in omni and 16 in figure-8, i.e. switching to omni costs you 4 dB of level and 4 dB of noise floor at once. Max SPL in cardioid is only 114 dB without the pad - this is not a mic for a snare.

The specification table of a tube microphone carries the phantom-power row of Neumann's transistor models, while the connector row of the same table reads «Microphone: spec. 7pin, Power Supply: XLR 3 F» and the body text of the same page says the NU 67 V power supply «automatically adapts to the local mains voltage». A U 67 plugged into a P48 preamp does not work; the 48 V row describes no state this microphone has.
