Tonal Profile
An RF-bias shotgun aimed squarely at the MKH 416, and the closest thing to it at half the price: the same immunity to humidity, a similar 25-ohm source impedance, 13 dBA of self-noise. Where it differs is the low end - 40 Hz, against the 416's 40 Hz too, but with a gentler interference tube and a wider usable off-axis window.
Gain Staging Advice
-30 dBV/Pa is 2 dB louder than an MKH 416 and the 13 dBA floor matches it, so on paper the two ask the same of a preamp: about 45 dB at boom distance.
Was im Datenblatt tatsächlich steht
Wörtlich von der Herstellerseite zitiert, mit dem Datum der Prüfung. Wir behaupten das Gedruckte, nicht die Absicht dahinter.
«Maximum Output Level 8.2mV (@ 1kHz, 1% THD into 1KΩ load)»
As printed, the maximum output is below the microphone's own output at conversational level. The same page gives 31.60 mV at 94 dB SPL and a maximum SPL of 130 dB, which is 36 dB higher and therefore about 2.0 V at the pins - roughly 250 times the figure in the row. RODE's own PDF datasheet for the NTG3 has no maximum-output row at all; the same «mV» row appears on the NT55 page (8.0 mV against a stated 12.60 mV at 94 dB SPL).
