Gain Staging Advice
58 dB of gain and -128 dBu EIN, and Tascam is one of very few makers that states the conditions for both: the EIN is at maximum gain with a 150 ohm source, the +9 dBu maximum input is at minimum gain. Those two qualifiers are what make the numbers comparable with anyone else's.
Amplification Warning
The headphone output is the weak point: 18 mW per channel into 32 ohms is 0.76 V, and the 66 ohm output impedance is high. Tascam states a working range of 16 to 250 ohms, which is an honest way of saying that 600 ohm headphones are outside what this drives.
