Gain Staging Advice
Output attenuation is separate from gain here, and that is how the box is meant to be used: drive the op-amp and transformer hard for saturation, then pull the output down so the interface still sees a sane level.
Production Warning
The front-panel instrument input is described by Warm Audio as running the signal through the whole circuit including the transformers — it is a coloured DI, not a clean one, and it behaves differently from a bypassed transformer setting.
