- Expert Description
- En: Two channels of the original 1073 preamp circuit with the classic transformers on input and output, up to 80 dB of microphone gain, a +/-10 dB output trim and switchable 300 Ω / 1200 Ω input impedance, followed by Neve's own 24-bit converters. The analogue and digital outputs run in parallel and independently, so the same take can be captured both ways at once.

Gain Staging Advice
AMS Neve are explicit that the 80 dB is reached by combining gain stages and then pulling the level back on the output trim — that is the intended way to drive the box into saturation without overloading what follows. Treat the trim as part of the gain structure, not as a volume knob.
Production Warning
The input impedance switch is a tone control on dynamics and ribbons: 300 Ω loads the microphone about four times harder than 1200 Ω and audibly changes its low end. There is no correct position, only a chosen one.
