Gain Staging Advice
The iD44's headline is headroom, not gain: +18 dBu maximum mic input level is 6 dB more than the newer iD24 and 9 dB more than the Focusrite 3rd Gen. EIN is -126 dBu, 4 dB noisier than the iD24, so this is the loud-source interface of the two, not the quiet-source one.
What the datasheet actually says

The 60 ohm and 600 ohm rows carry identical figures. They cannot both be right: the same +14.2 dBu (3.97 V) into ten times the impedance delivers a tenth of the power, so 60 ohms would give about 263 mW and 600 ohms about 26 mW — neither is 54 mW. The 30 ohm row above them is arithmetically sound (2.51 V into 30 ohms is 210 mW, as printed), which is why we take our figure from that row.
