Semi-open: neither the isolation of the 770 nor the openness of the 990, and the only one of the three built as a single impedance in the PRO line. 96 dB/mW at 250 Ohms means about 1.6 V for 110 dB — past what most interface headphone outputs deliver into that load, which is why this model is the standard argument for a separate amplifier.

The unit is missing, and at 250 Ohms the choice decides everything: 96 dB/mW is 2.0 V for 110 dB, 96 dB/V is 4.0 V — one is reachable from a good interface, the other is not. beyerdynamic names the unit elsewhere in its own catalogue («102 dB (1 mW / 500 Hz)» on the Amiron home, «100 dB SPL (1mW/500Hz)» on the PRO X series), so we read the figure as dB/mW. The same «96 dB» appears on the DT 770 PRO, DT 880 Edition, DT 990 PRO, DT 990 Edition and TYGR 300 R — closed, semi-open and open designs alike.
