Headroom Notes

A dock is the standard answer to a laptop that cannot feed an interface, and this one publishes the budget port by port instead of as one headline: front USB-C 20 W (5V/3A, 9V/2.22A), remaining USB-C ports 7.5 W (5V/1.5A), USB-A ports 7.5 W (5V/1.5A), each downstream Thunderbolt port 15 W, host charging up to 98 W. Plugging the interface into the wrong socket of the same dock is a 2.5-fold difference in available current.

Production Warning

The 3 A at 5 V on the front port is a USB Type-C current advertisement, not a Power Delivery contract: the source declares it with a resistor and a device may take it without negotiating anything. That is why it sits in defaultUsbCurrent — it is what an interface with no PD support actually gets, which on a phone or a laptop port would be 500 or 900 mA. The dock also has two analogue audio outputs and a microphone input, for which CalDigit publishes no level, impedance or noise figure.
