Headroom Notes
85 W into 8 ohms is the only power figure Cambridge publishes for this receiver - there is no 4 ohm rating anywhere, although the manual allows 4 ohm speakers. The two distortion figures are given at 80 % of rated power: <0.01 % at 1 kHz and <0.15 % across 20 Hz - 20 kHz. The full-band one is recorded here because it is the one that describes music.
Thermal Behavior
'You can use speakers with an impedance of 4 - 8 Ohms' - in the manual, which covers the AXR85 and the AXR100 together. The product page's specification list does not mention loudspeaker impedance at all.
What the datasheet actually says
Quoted verbatim from the manufacturer’s own page, with the date we checked it. We state what is printed, not what anyone intended by it.
«Power Output: 85 watts (into 8Ω)»
The specification list gives one load only. The manual for the same receiver permits speakers of 4 to 8 ohms, so half the permitted impedance range has no published power rating at all. Nothing here says what the receiver delivers into the 4 ohm speaker it is allowed to drive.
