- Expert Description
- En: A Class-A JFET activator with a Vari-Z knob that sweeps the load the microphone sees from 150 Ω to 15 kΩ, plus a switchable high-pass that interacts with the impedance setting and an output attenuator that drops the +25 dB to +12 dB. It runs on phantom power and does not pass it on, so any microphone behind it must be a passive one.

Tonal Profile
The Vari-Z knob is a tone control disguised as a matching aid. At 150 Ω a ribbon is loaded hard and loses top end and level; near 15 kΩ it is barely loaded at all. There is no correct setting, and the high-pass behaves differently at each end of the sweep.
Production Warning
Cloud state it plainly: the box does not pass phantom power. A condenser plugged in behind it is dead even though the +48 V button on the interface is lit and the meter shows the button is on — the failure is silent and looks like a broken microphone.
