Headroom Notes

This receiver is the clearest illustration in the batch of how far one amplifier can be stretched by wording alone: Denon publishes four power figures for it - 75, 110, 140 and 165 W - and every one of them is true under the condition printed beside it. Only the first is a full-band, two-channel rating comparable with anything else in this catalogue.

What the datasheet actually says

Quoted verbatim from the manufacturer’s own page, with the date we checked it. We state what is printed, not what anyone intended by it.

Measurement conditions
«Power Output (8 ohm, 20 Hz - 20 kHz, 0.08% 2ch Drive) 75W / (6 ohm, 1 kHz, 0.7% 2ch Drive) 110W / (6 ohm, 1 kHz, 1% 1ch Drive) 140W / (6 ohm, 1 kHz, 10% 1ch Drive) 165W»

Four numbers for one amplifier, spanning a factor of 2.2, produced by loosening the conditions one at a time: load from 8 to 6 ohms, band from the whole audio range to a single 1 kHz tone, driven channels from two to one, distortion from 0.08 % to 10 %. Retail listings and box art usually quote the last one. Only the first can be set against a full-band rating.
