Gain Staging Advice
50 dB of gain with the ceiling at about -3.9 dBu: a narrow window, and one of the tightest input ceilings in this batch. Phantom power runs from two AA cells when there is no bus, which is the point of the box, but IK's own note is worth reading — 'both inputs connected to two 1.5 mA phantom powered loads' gives three and a half hours on rechargeables, and a real condenser draws more than 1.5 mA.

IK gives the input window in peak-to-peak volts, which no other interface maker in this class does — everyone else prints a maximum input level in dBu. For a sine wave 1.4 Vpp is 0.495 Vrms, that is -3.9 dBu, and 6 mVpp is 0.0021 Vrms; the ratio between the two ends is 47.4 dB, close to but not equal to the 50 dB gain range stated two lines below. IK does not say at which gain setting either end applies, and for a non-sinusoidal signal the peak-to-peak figure converts differently.
