Gain Staging Advice
-133 dBV EIN is -130.8 dBu, the quietest preamp in this batch on equal terms, and 72 dB of range on top. The cost is headroom: a maximum input level of 8.2 dBu is 4 to 10 dB less than most of the field, so a loud line source can clip the input before the software meter suggests it.
Amplification Warning
37 ohm output impedance is high enough to matter: with a 16 ohm multi-driver in-ear it will audibly change the frequency response. 2.0 V is fine for 32-80 ohm headphones and thin for 250 ohms.
What the datasheet actually says
Quoted verbatim from the manufacturer’s own page, with the date we checked it. We state what is printed, not what anyone intended by it.
«Equivalent input noise –133 dBV (A-weighted) / Max input level 6 dBV»
Lewitt publishes every level on this page in dBV, while essentially every other interface maker publishes in dBu. The two scales differ by 2.2 dB: 0 dBu is 0.775 V, 0 dBV is 1 V. Placed next to a competitor's dBu figure, a dBV EIN therefore looks 2.2 dB quieter than it is, and a dBV maximum input level looks 2.2 dB smaller than it is. Nothing is being hidden — the unit is printed plainly — but a shopper comparing two spec sheets side by side will get it wrong unless they convert. Our stored numbers are converted: EIN and maximum input level are in dBu.
