Headroom Notes

100 W into 8 ohms and 200 W into 4 ohms - but both are measured at 1 kHz, not across 20 Hz - 20 kHz. Marantz's own cheaper models, the PM7000N and the MODEL 50, are rated across the full band. On the most expensive of the three the narrower test is the one that got printed.

Thermal Behavior

'Use speakers with an impedance of 4 - 16 ohms', in the connection chapter. There is a single pair of speaker terminals, so the 8 ohm floor that applies to A+B on the MODEL 50 does not arise here.

Both ratings are taken at a single 1 kHz tone. Marantz rates the cheaper PM7000N (60 W / 8 ohms) and MODEL 50 (70 W / 8 ohms) with the same wording but across 20 Hz - 20 kHz, so within one manufacturer's own line the headline watts are not measured the same way. A 1 kHz rating says nothing about what the amplifier does at 30 Hz, where a loudspeaker's impedance is usually at its lowest.
