Headroom Notes

86.3 dB at 2.83 V on 6 ohms is about 85.1 dB/W/m. With 15–90 W recommended and a 56 Hz lower limit at −6 dB, this is a near-field or small-room speaker; the sensitivity leaves little margin for a large room even at the top of the power range.

Amplification Warning

A 110 mm two-way in five litres, 6 ohms nominal and 3.3 ohms minimum. That minimum is barely above the 3.0 ohms of the 5040 floorstander, which is unusual: a small bookshelf normally presents an easier load than a tower with two woofers in parallel. Size the amplifier for 4 ohms and ignore the 6 in the nominal row.

Three parts of this single row disagree. The drive condition is 2.83 volts, the unit is decibels per watt per metre, and the distance appears only in the unit and not in the condition, which instead names a frequency of 1 kHz. On the 6-ohm nominal load declared on the same page, 2.83 V is about 1.33 W, so the volt-referenced and watt-referenced figures differ by roughly 1.25 dB. We follow the measurement condition, because it describes what was physically applied to the terminals, and store the number as a 2.83 V figure. The neighbouring 3000i series pages print «Sensitivity (2.83 Vrms@1 m)» without the dB/w/m suffix.
