Gain Staging Advice
The 21.6 dB is not a loss to be avoided, it is the job: the transformer steps a hot instrument output down to something a mic preamp can take. Expect to add roughly that much gain back at the interface, and expect eight channels of it to arrive at the same level.
Production Warning
Passive box, so phantom power on the console does nothing here — neither harm nor good. It also means no channel dies when the phantom supply is switched off mid-set.
