Expert Audio Engineering Commentary

Tonal Profile

A hybrid: one dynamic MicroDriver plus one balanced armature. Filed as Dynamic because the woofer is, but the crossover and the armature are what shape the impedance curve.

Amplification Warning

Seven ohms is the lowest nominal impedance Shure publishes for any current earphone, and the schema's own floor is four. A source with 10 Ω of output impedance — an ordinary laptop jack — is a bigger resistance than the load itself: you lose more than half the voltage and hear the impedance curve instead of the tuning.

What the datasheet actually says

Quoted verbatim from the manufacturer’s own page, with the date we checked it. We state what is printed, not what anyone intended by it.

Named like something else
«Sensitivity at 1 kHz — 106 dB SPL/MW»

«MW» is megawatt in SI notation; the intended unit is «mW», milliwatt. Shure prints the lower-case form in the SE215 and SE846 guides on the same server and the upper-case form in all three Aonic guides. We record milliwatts.
