Gain Staging Advice
The minimum mic gain is +6 dB, not 0: this module cannot be used as a straight wire on a hot source. That is what the front-panel line input with the 1 MΩ switch is for, and its range starts at -3 dB.
Production Warning
A 500-series module draws its power from the rack, not from phantom. What it supplies to the microphone is +48 V from the rack's own rails, so a weak or overloaded rack shows up as a phantom problem at the capsule.
What the datasheet actually says
Quoted verbatim from the manufacturer’s own page, with the date we checked it. We state what is printed, not what anyone intended by it.
«Mic Pre EIN: Typically 129dB»
Equivalent input noise is a level, always negative and always referred to a stated reference — normally dBu with a 150 Ω source. Printed as a bare positive "129dB" it names neither the sign nor the reference nor the source impedance, and cannot be compared with a competitor's "-128 dBu, 150 Ω" without assuming all three. The same page does state the reference for other figures, so the omission is specific to this row.
