- En: All-tube Putnam 610 channel in a portable chassis: one 12AX7 and one 12AT7, selectable mic input impedance 450 Ω (Lo-Z) or 1.6 kΩ (Hi-Z), selectable DI impedance 2.2 MΩ or 50 kΩ, maximum mic input level -12 dBu at 1% THD+N, and separate Gain and Level controls so the tube stage can be driven independently of the output.

Gain Staging Advice
Maximum mic input level is -12 dBu — very low. A condenser on a snare will overload the input stage long before the tube starts to sound interesting; the impedance switch and the Level control are the only tools, since there is no pad.
Production Warning
Universal Audio's specification table for this unit says nothing about phantom power, so the catalogue records "passes phantom to the mic" as unknown. Do not assume: verify on the unit before plugging in a condenser.
What the datasheet actually says
Quoted verbatim from the manufacturer’s own page, with the date we checked it. We state what is printed, not what anyone intended by it.
««Maximum Gain: 61 dB» … «Maximum Gain Mic Input: 55 dB (1.6K ohm input), 60 dB (450 ohm input)» … «Maximum Gain Instrument Input: 37 dB»»
One specification table gives three different maximum gains for the same unit: a headline 61 dB, then 55 dB or 60 dB for the mic input depending on the impedance setting, then 37 dB for the instrument input. No condition is attached to the 61 dB figure, and it matches none of the itemised ones. The catalogue records 60 dB — the mic input in its 450 Ω position, the highest figure the table states with a condition attached to it.
