Headroom Notes

NAD rates the same 40 W into both 8 and 4 ohms, 20 Hz - 20 kHz at rated THD (<0.03 %), both channels driven, and that identical pair of numbers is the point: it is a conservative continuous rating, not a load-doubling claim. What the amplifier actually has in reserve is in the separate rows — clipping power >45 W into 8 ohms and >60 W into 4 ohms at 0.1 % THD, and IHF dynamic power of 90 / 120 / 170 W into 8 / 4 / 2 ohms. A 40 W NAD and a 100 W receiver are much closer in practice than the spec sheets suggest.

Thermal Behavior

The rear panel carries the rating in silkscreen: MINIMUM SPEAKER IMPEDANCE 4 ohms. One pair of terminals only, so there is no A+B parallel case to get wrong.
