Tonal Profile
The oldest surviving 40-series large diaphragm: cardioid only, back-electret, transformerless. Its reputation is for being unexcited - a small presence lift and nothing else - which is why it survives on acoustic guitar and voice-over.
Gain Staging Advice
-32 dBV/Pa is loud, and 17 dB-A is average; the combination means an inexpensive preamp will not embarrass it. Note the US domain returns 403 to anything automated - the numbers here come from Audio-Technica's Japanese sheet, which is the one that names units at all.
