Expert Audio Engineering Commentary

Tonal Profile

A true condenser pencil made in Heilbronn: cardioid, -15 dB pad, 250 Hz low cut. beyerdynamic keeps the numbers out of the product card entirely - they live only in the A5 PDF linked from the SPEC SHEET block.

Gain Staging Advice

30 mV/Pa (-30.5 dBV/Pa) is loud for a small diaphragm - about 6 dB above an Austrian Audio CC8 - and that is the microphone's real selling point on a quiet source. Max SPL is only 124 dB without the pad, though, so an overhead over a loud kit wants the -15 dB in.

What the datasheet actually says

Quoted verbatim from the manufacturer’s own page, with the date we checked it. We state what is printed, not what anyone intended by it.

Unit not stated
«Signal-to-noise ratio rel. to 1 Pa 71 dB / A-weighted equivalent SPL 16 dB»

The two noise rows of the same spec sheet do not reduce to each other. 1 Pa is 94 dB SPL, so 94 − 71 = 23 dB, not the 16 dB printed in the row below; the signal-to-noise row names no weighting while the row below names A-weighting explicitly. The MC 950 sheet repeats the pattern with the same 7 dB gap (72 dB against 15 dB). Read as a pair, the rows say the S/N figure is unweighted - but neither sheet says so.
