Expert Audio Engineering Commentary

Tonal Profile

Hypercardioid kick-drum dynamic with an integrated elastic suspension, 20 Hz - 14.1 kHz close-miked. The response stopping at 14.1 kHz is a decision rather than a limit: there is little above it inside a kick drum.

Gain Staging Advice

-53.1 dBV/Pa makes this the loud outlier among kick microphones: 8.8 dB above both an Audix D6 and an Electro-Voice ND68, and 10.9 dB above a Shure Beta 52A. If you are used to running a kick channel near the top of the preamp, this one will surprise you at the other end - start low and expect to cut, not add.
