Tonal Profile
A mains-powered dual-circuit condenser: nine patterns, a continuously variable tube/FET blend, and an 11-pin cable to its own PSU. It takes no phantom power - the microphone will not work plugged straight into an interface.
Gain Staging Advice
The PSU output is a normal XLR at -33 dBV/Pa, so the interface only ever sees a loud, low-impedance line. Budget mains power and a 250 x 150 mm box on the desk; that, not the sound, is what usually decides against this microphone.
What the datasheet actually says
Quoted verbatim from the manufacturer’s own page, with the date we checked it. We state what is printed, not what anyone intended by it.
«Self-noise 8 dB (A) FET, 12 dB (A) tube»
The LCT 940 blends a 12AX7 tube stage and a FET stage continuously, and Lewitt states the noise floor at both ends of that control - 8 dB (A) fully FET, 12 dB (A) fully tube. The single sensitivity figure of 23 mV/Pa (-33 dBV/Pa), by contrast, is given once for nine polar patterns and for both circuits. The stored self-noise is the FET end.
