Expert Audio Engineering Commentary

Tonal Profile

1-inch gold-evaporated capsule, cardioid, with a -10 dB pad and an 80 Hz low-cut. Self-noise is 18 dB(A) and max SPL 127 dB - both a long way behind the Lewitt and the Neumann here, and the reason it is cheaper.

Gain Staging Advice

Aston publishes only 23.7 mV/Pa, measured into 1 kohm; -32.5 dBV/Pa is that converted. Output impedance is not published at all, so a claim about how it behaves on a low-impedance input cannot be made from the datasheet.
