Both ratings carry their conditions in full: 160 W RMS per channel, 20 Hz - 20 kHz, THD <0.1 %, into 8 ohms, both channels driven; 250 W RMS per channel, 1 kHz, THD <1 %, into 4 ohms, both channels driven. Note the 4 ohm figure is single-tone at ten times the distortion — the same trick the AV receivers use, but here both sets of conditions are printed, so the comparison is possible.

Thermal Behavior

Emotiva states the limit as a rule rather than a range: minimum load 4 ohms per channel, 'equals one 4 Ohm speaker or two paralleled 8 Ohm speakers'. That sentence is worth more than an impedance range, because it names the case people actually get wrong.
