Two verdicts that point in opposite directions.
Impedance: safe. The 3030i has a published 4 Ω minimum and the A2+ is rated to 4 Ω per channel, so the load stays inside the amplifier’s envelope. Power: flagged. Q Acoustics’ stereo window for this speaker is 25–75 W and the amplifier makes 160 W into 8 Ω, which is more than twice the top of the window, so the calculation raises an overpower hazard while leaving the overall verdict clear.
What that flag means, and what it does not. It is not a prediction that the speaker will fail. An amplifier with headroom is gentler on tweeters than a small one driven into clipping, which is the actual mechanism behind most burnt voice coils. The risk it names is behavioural: with 160 W available and 100.8 dB reachable at 2.5 m — only 4.2 dB below the 105 dB reference peak — nothing in the chain will warn you before the cones do. The useful precaution is a volume ceiling, not a different amplifier.
Which power figure was used, and why. Emotiva publishes 160 W RMS per channel, 20 Hz–20 kHz, THD under 0.1 %, into 8 Ω, both channels driven — and 250 W per channel at 1 kHz, THD under 1 %, into 4 Ω, both channels driven. The second figure is single-tone at ten times the distortion, the same trick the AV receivers use, except that Emotiva prints both sets of conditions so the comparison is possible at all. The calculation used the 8 Ω rating, because the 3030i’s nominal impedance is above 4 Ω. Sensitivity: 88 dB printed at 2.83 V into 6 Ω, so 86.75 dB per watt in the calculation; 2 % cable loss on 16 AWG; damping factor 35.
The sentence worth copying from Emotiva’s manual. The minimum load is stated as a rule rather than a range: 4 Ω per channel, «equals one 4 Ohm speaker or two paralleled 8 Ohm speakers». That names the case people actually get wrong — a second pair on the same terminals — instead of leaving it to be inferred from an impedance range. Q Acoustics does something similar in reverse: it prints two power windows for the same speaker, 25–75 W for a stereo amplifier and 50–145 W for an AV receiver with two channels driven. This catalogue carries the conservative stereo figure, which is why the flag appears at all.
