The AVR-S770H is rated 75 W + 75 W into 8 Ω, 20 Hz–20 kHz, 0.08 % THD. The 110 W in the listings is measured at 6 Ω, at 1 kHz, at 0.7 % THD. Three conditions changed at once — a lighter load, a single tone instead of the whole band, and nearly nine times the distortion — for 47 % more watts. The catalogue stores the first figure, because it is the one measured the way music is played.
What the change is worth in level. With the Bronze 50 at 3.5 m, 75 W gives 93.9 dB, 11.1 dB below the 105 dB reference peak. Run the same calculation on the 110 W marketing figure and it gives 95.5 dB. The whole difference between the number on the box and the number in the manual is 1.6 dB — less than the step between two clicks of a volume control, and less than moving your chair 30 cm closer.
The same ladder, printed in full. The Denon AVR-S570BT in this catalogue publishes all three rungs for one amplifier: 70 W at 8 Ω and 0.08 % THD, 90 W at 6 Ω and 0.7 %, 110 W at 4 Ω and 1 %. Nothing was measured twice; one amplifier was described three ways, and the spread is 57 %. When a spec sheet gives you a watt figure without a load, a bandwidth and a distortion figure beside it, it has not told you anything you can compare.
And a detail on the speaker. Monitor Audio gives its minimum as 4.0 Ω at 200 Hz. Naming the frequency is unusual and it matters: 200 Hz is the middle of male voice and bass guitar, where current is demanded constantly, not a narrow corner nobody plays. Against the receiver’s 4 Ω rating the verdict is safe with nothing to spare, 0.9 % cable loss on 14 AWG and a damping factor of 64. Take the same speaker to the AVR-S570BT, whose minimum is 6 Ω, and the level barely moves — 93.6 dB — while the verdict turns into a thermal overload hazard. Two receivers from one brand, 0.3 dB apart in loudness and on opposite sides of the safety line.
