Rode PodMic without a Cloudlifter: the Scarlett 4i4 4th gen says yes, the Studio 24c says no — same microphone
The PodMic is the lowest-output dynamic in this catalogue at −57 dBV/Pa. On a 69 dB preamp it needs no help at all; on a 50 dB preamp it is six decibels short. The answer to "do I need a booster" was never a property of the microphone.

Short answer: on this interface, no booster. The Scarlett 4i4 4th gen offers 69 dB and the PodMic asks for 62 — seven decibels in hand.
The rule everyone repeats — "a low-output dynamic needs a Cloudlifter" — was written when a typical affordable interface offered 50 to 56 dB of gain. Focusrite's 4th generation offers 69. The rule did not become wrong because the microphones changed. It became wrong because the preamps did, and the rule stayed.
Same microphone, same voice, same 85 dB SPL, four different interfaces:

The PodMic did not change between rows. Only the box it is plugged into did, and the answer flipped from comfortable to broken.
The gem, and it is the one people get wrong. Look again at the "gain needed" column: 62, 55, 55, 56. The requirement is not a constant. It moves with the interface's clip point, not just its maximum gain. A converter that clips at +16 dBu sits 6 dB higher up the voltage scale than one that clips at +10 dBu, so hitting the same −18 dBFS on it demands 6 dB more gain from the preamp. This is why the Scarlett both needs the most gain and has the most room: high headroom and high gain are two faces of the same design decision. Anyone who tells you a microphone "needs 60 dB" without naming the interface is quoting half a calculation.
If you are on the Studio 24c. Six decibels short is a real shortfall, not a rounding error: the knob ends and you make it up in the DAW, lifting the preamp's own hiss by the same six. A +25 dB Cloudlifter CL-2 takes the requirement down to 31 dB, which the 24c delivers from the calm middle of its range — that is the case where a booster genuinely earns its price. But if the interface is not bought yet, spending the booster's money on the interface instead buys you the same result with one less box in the signal path.
