Tonal Profile
The studio default: 80 Ω is high enough that an interface output stays in its comfortable range, low enough that nothing needs a dedicated amplifier. 96 dB/mW here is about 107 dB/V — a good sanity check on how much the same nominal number means at different impedances.

beyerdynamic prints this one figure on the shared DT 770 PRO sheet, and it stands for all three impedance versions — 32, 80 and 250 Ω — which have different voice coils and are, for every practical purpose, three different headphones. The sheet also omits the unit; the sibling PRO X pages spell it out as «100 dB SPL (1mW/500Hz)», which is why we read this one as dB/mW too. Both choices matter: read as dB/V instead, the three versions look identical, and the 8.9 dB spread that decides which one your interface can drive disappears.
