The same three headphones that split into three verdicts on a small interface all come out COMFORTABLE here: +13.2 dB, +9.4 dB, +4.5 dB.

FiiO publishes the K11 headphone output as 12 Vp-p on the 6.35 mm jack, which is 4.24 Vrms, and ≥520 mW into 32 Ω. Against the DT 770's requirement of 0.897 V (32 Ω), 1.418 V (80 Ω) and 2.506 V (250 Ω), that reaches 123.2, 119.4 and 114.5 dB SPL. Every version clears the 110 dB peak target with room, so nothing about the electrical side argues for one over another.

This is one of the few sources here where the 1/8 rule can actually be checked. FiiO publishes an output impedance of <1.2 Ω at a 32 Ω load. The ratios come out at 26.7, 66.7 and 208 — the rule wants 8 or more, so all three pass, and the 32 Ω version passes by more than three times over. Because 1.2 Ω is FiiO's stated upper bound, those ratios are lower bounds: the real numbers can only be better.

The pearl: the K11 does not touch the MacBook's USB power budget. It runs from its own supply, so the laptop's 15 W port is delivering data only. That matters more than it sounds: on a bus-powered dongle, the loudest passage and the amp's power budget compete for the same 5 V rail, and the ceiling you calculate is the ceiling before that competition. Here the two are separated, which is most of what the word "desktop" is buying — the other part is the low output impedance.

So which version? On this device, whichever fits your head. The 32 Ω model is the only DT 770 with leatherette pads instead of velour, and pads change the treble, not just the comfort — that is a real tonal difference, unlike the 8.9 dB of sensitivity spread that the K11 has just made irrelevant. Worth noting the practical detail: the K11's headphone jack is 6.35 mm and the DT 770 arrives on 3.5 mm with a screw-on adapter, so the adapter stays on permanently here.
