Shure MV7 on a Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen over XLR: does it need a booster?
No — 53 dB required against 56 available, three decibels in hand. Four decibels of sensitivity are the whole difference between this microphone and the SM7B that famously does not fit on this card.

Short answer: no booster needed — you finish with about three decibels to spare.
The MV7's XLR side is a dynamic capsule of −55 dBV/Pa. Speech at 85 dB SPL a hand away leaves it at roughly −61.8 dBu; the Solo 3rd Gen clips at +9 dBu, so a −18 dBFS target asks for 53 dB. The card supplies 56. In practice the knob sits near three quarters, not against the stop — which also means you are not listening to the preamp's noisiest setting.
Compare it with the microphone everyone compares it to. The SM7B is 4 dB less sensitive, needs 57 dB on the same card, and is 1 dB short. Four decibels of capsule sensitivity is the entire reason one of these two microphones spawned a whole accessory category and the other did not.
What people find out too late: in XLR mode the MV7 is only a dynamic microphone. The auto level, the tone presets, the real-time denoiser and the headphone jack all live on the USB side and are powered by it — feed the microphone through XLR alone and none of them exist. A large share of MV7 buyers choose it over an SM7B for the MOTIV app, then plug it into an interface and lose exactly the feature they paid the difference for.
One technical footnote: the MV7's output impedance is 314 Ω, roughly twice the SM7B's 150 Ω. Every modern interface input is high enough (usually 1.5–3 kΩ) for that not to matter, but on a vintage transformer input it is worth a thought before blaming the cable.
